Christmas Celebrations
Saying I had a white Christmas is the understatement of a life time. On Christmas eve we were at Scott base doing our environmental impact survey so we got to wish everyone at Scott base a Merry Christmas. This made the Christmas season come alive for us. On Christmas eve I slept in my first igloo with Islay. We left some lollies out for Santa because the milk would have frozen.
When I woke up in the morning I enjoyed a lazy cup of tea with my classmates, this was after I did weather readings of course. I made some yummy apple pancakes for everyone, we even had syrup! We all had found that Santa got a bit confused in the night and left the presents in the wrong persons tent! There was much sorting out that needed to be done so we left all our presents under one of the Christmas Tree’s we made.
Santa came to clear things up just before lunch. We could tell he was coming by the sound of Christmas carols as his sleight was pulled by a ski doo. Then he and his elves arrived and we gave him a warm welcome. Santa dropped off his gift some some lovely food for us to share. There was ham, potatoes, salad, stuffing, salmon, lemons, pavlova, trifle and fresh berries! Santa couldn’t stay long as there were still many other stops to make along the way. I was very relieved to know that Santa would still be able to find me even in place where the sun doesn’t go down.
We continued on the day eating, drinking and being merry. It took us awhile to sort out whose present went to who but it was good fun in the end. I got the physics magazine and a small horsey Calendar. The real merriment began when we dressed up like Pirates! Coping the heroic explorers we prepared for a dress up party. There were swords and eye patches and pirate hats galore! There was also some good fun had during a ECW boot throwing competitions. Many different techniques were used, some successful, others not so much. Before we knew it it was time to eat again and we cooked up some more leftovers. They still tasted wonderful for days to come.
While it wasn’t my typical Christmas spent feeding horses and watching 24 hours of a Christmas Story on TBS it will not be a Christmas to forget anytime soon.
